U.S. Senator Ron Wyden Visits Facebook Data Center in Prineville
12 August 2010 – Prineville, Oregon – United
States Senator Ron Wyden is in Central Oregon this week, making visits to some
local companies. Today, he meets with representatives of eight Central Oregon
craft breweries at Deschutes Brewery in Bend. Wyden is co-sponsoring
legislation that will cut the tax on the first 60,000 barrels of craft beer in
half in order to stimulate investment and create jobs. Craft brewing is a $2.33
billion a year industry in Oregon.
Tomorrow, August 13, Wyden will be in
Prineville to take a tour of the Facebook Data Center with Data Center manager
Ken Patchett and Crook County Judge Mike McCabe. The Prineville facility for
Facebook has recently filed an application with the City of Prineville to begin construction on
a 160,000 foot expansion of phase 1-C and 1-D, which will be connected next to
the first phase of the data center. Facebook will immediately begin the site
work, upon approval from the city. They planned this expansion even before the
first phases of building were complete.
Facebook’s tremendous
growth as a company in the past several months has contributed to the expansion
of their only company-owned data center in Prineville, Oregon.
